Biiru
Though it fail to explain why Japanese beer by and large is ... ermmm .... very mild.
Okay, except for Hitachino Nest and other microbrews.

Change of Pace
Well, another school year done. A crazy one, as my heavy posting schedule during its course might sort of, kind of hint at. I am finally ready to admit that teaching turns me into a zombie. Even desk jobs that I would hate would leave me full of creative energy in the evenings, but teaching so totally drains me all I can do is sit there and go "meh".
Time for some brain recovery and a definite change of pace.
So as I recover and scheme, I would like to share the current state of my brain:

And really ... can be?

The Internet is Over
Yep, the Internet is over. It has nothing left to document. Now go read a book or something. I hear it's good for you.

Fritz Linden's Metropolis
I think Fritz Lang's Metropolis is an interesting landmark of sorts. I mean beyond the normal reason. I am more interested the remakes, interpretations and allusions to it.
Here is one done entirely in Second Life, broken down into bite size chapters for your convenience.

The Japanese government has decided to take a more active role in exporting cuteness to the rest of the world ... it was only a matter of time.

Two Takes on Religion
For those who think the obvious is really surprising, just because it goes against common prejudice, two bits on religion and human nature:

The Singularity University
There can be only one!
No wait, that's something else.
Ray Kurzweil has teamed up with Google and NASA to create a school, well, a training program really, dedicated to thinking about the future. With a price range and a low enrollment that guarantees to limit to executives and academics whose companies and institutions by some miracle still have deep pockets.
Although is sort of begs the question: Is the economic exclusion it creates in the way it has structured it's reported mission to prepare humanity for accelerated technological change a model for how the conceived future will unfold, who will be allowed to participate in it, and who will be left by the wayside because they couldn't afford an E ticket?

Geek Scouts
Well, if we're going to have nerd merit badges, we need geek merit badges too.
So the first badge in the set will be the Hell(o)Kitty badge, for using Hello Kitty in wonderfully inappropriate ways. We can start with baking.
We can then follow with other appropriate bits of meme busting and generally geekiness. For instance, merit badges in holding strong opinions about Star Trek and Star Wars movies. With a special one for having had an argument that led to blows about those opinions, but only within your respective camp.
I don't suppose they still make those nice, pink Hello Kitty personal massagers ...

Still Flu-ey
Some news of the world that leave me happy that I am hidden away under some nice warm covers simpering about how it hurts to laugh and to cough.
- Large Candy Cane Used To Beat Threatening Neighbor [boingboing]
- Wal-Mart worker dies after shoppers knock him down [AP]
- Wake Up Frankie via boingboing via contexts
I mean, just in case the last election was giving you the deluded notion that the world had suddenly become sane or something.
Getting caught up on lots of backlogged bloggy news.

Oh Flu-ey
Okay, supposed to be very busy for the holidays but Friday either earned me some food poisoning from leftovers or a realy nasty flu, so brain totally out of gear. Still hurts to laugh, but this bit of pain was so worth it.

Okay, the article isn't funny, just the headline, so you don't actually have to click on it or anything.
In good news, my post-Thanksgiving diet is doing amazingly well. Gonna go have another cracker and whimper a bit more.
